34 - I got an astrology reading. Here's what happened.

Hey, Astro Lover. Welcome back to Third House Gossip. I hope you're doing okay out there, that you're holding things together, that you are feeling nourished and grounded and safe and all of that good stuff. I have kind of a personal update for you today, so cozy up, grab something yummy to sip on and let's chit chat.

First of all, where am I with the book? Thank you for asking. I am so close to being done with the first draft. It's due on July 31st, so as of today, I have about five weeks left to get this finished up and everything is done except for the beginning of the book. And I always leave those chapters for last because sometimes I never really know what the book is going to have until I'm done with it. And so it's [00:01:00] hard to write an intro when you don't know what the book is going to include.

So now that the book has expressed itself and it has poured itself out, I'm gonna go back and write the introduction and the. Chapters that kinda lay the groundwork and the philosophy of the book. So that's a big job. I opened the introduction draft today. It was something I quickly drafted, maybe. Three months ago now, maybe longer.

And I read through it and promptly closed my laptop and I was like, Nope, not today. Not today. It was such a mess. And um, I'm just gonna need more matcha and more sleep in order to address that. So. I'll come back to that tomorrow, but it feels good to be, at this point in the process, we're actually already naming the book, which is [00:02:00] wild to me because that's not what happened with body astrology.

With body astrology. We titled it last, but apparently, and I don't really know what this means, so. You know, maybe it doesn't mean anything, but apparently this book is, um, categorized as a lead title with Penguin Random House. So that means they need the cover way in advance, which means the title has to be created.

And that was news to me. So, um, that's cool. Right? That's exciting. I like that. I like the sound of that. Anyway, that's a whole journey. I haven't really found a title that feels good to me. And you know, I don't really get to choose the end title. I don't have a hundred percent creative control. So that's also such a journey to dance with a team of people and figure out what makes the most sense, both creatively, but also from a selling standpoint.

Like what [00:03:00] title is going to pop out on a shelf. Anyway, that's what's going on there. I'm also making the images for the book, which is a trip because I am not a graphic designer. Luckily, astrology graphics are pretty simple, you know, they're just circles and lines, but still, I'm like, this is challenging for me.

Bless my heart. So that's happening. And then what did we have this week? Today is the Cancer New Moon. If you're listening to this on the afternoon that I'm publishing it, love you. If you are, that means we're we're close. We love each other. And we also had what? Jupiter cazimi on Tuesday, the 24th of June.

That was interesting. I got a tax refund that I really didn't expect. I just opened my bank account and there was a deposit and I was like, thanks Jupiter. That's pretty stellar. Love that for us.

Enough of the small talk. Let's dive into what happened during my [00:04:00] astrology reading. Yes, I'm an astrologer and yes, I got an astrology reading from someone else, and I think this is really important to normalize and to express because when you read your own chart, you can do a lot with it. But it's so helpful to have someone else's outside perspective.

Even if they don't tell you something that you don't already know. They can tell it to you in a way that lands differently and it's just richer. It just makes astrology more alive when it's coming out of someone else's mouth and it's not coming from your own. Brain that's seen your own chart a bazillion times.

So I highly recommend if you're a professional or a really serious student and you don't get readings, that you get readings from an astrologer you trust just so you can have an outside viewpoint. [00:05:00] I haven't had an astrology reading in 10 years. That's wild. And I definitely feel like I should have done this a lot earlier, but I don't know.

As a pro, I was like, oh, it's expensive and I can do it myself and I should just do it myself, blah, blah, blah. So many excuses. But astrologers need astrologers. Coaches need coaches. You know, people need people. So last week, about a week ago now, I've taken some time to digest. I got an astrology reading from who I now consider my astrologer and slash business coach.

And I went to this astrologer because I needed some guidance with what I'm doing professionally because what I've been doing doesn't feel very good and it hasn't felt good for a long time. [00:06:00] So here's some backstory. Body astrology. My first book came out in 2022 and right before body astrology came out, I had a really huge breakup with the wellness industry, and that's a whole nother story that I don't have time to get into today.

But basically I made a decision that I didn't wanna work in wellness, and that was really tough when I had to promote this book that was a wellness book. And it also brought a bunch of clients to me that weren't my ideal clients because I didn't wanna work in medical or wellness astrology anymore. I wanted to pivot, but because I was, you know, it's a very privileged problem, but because I was basically contracted to support the.

Publishing of body astrology and the dissemination of the book throughout the globe. I had to show up in that capacity, even though I [00:07:00] didn't want to. And so this pivot that I've been trying to make for years has been taking years 

so since 2022, I. Pivoted to being a general astrologer, and I would just let anybody and everybody come to me and ask me whatever questions they wanted because I didn't know what else to do. I was like, well, I don't wanna be a medical astrologer, but I don't know what kind of astrologer I wanna be, so I'll be everybody's astrologer.

So I got all kinds of questions, and over the last, what, three years, I've felt a lot like a request line where you just get the most random requests from people and you have to deliver a service to them. That's. Uh, meaningful and that resonates. But a lot of times the questions I would be asked didn't land with my expertise or what I [00:08:00] was interested in, et cetera.

And so that was a little awkward for me. And being a generalist, I mean, y'all don't know this, but I have a business degree. Being a generalist is never really a great business strategy, and I definitely saw that choice reflect in my bottom line. It was really hard to succeed as an astrological generalist.

So anyway, long story short, I realized that I desperately need to niche down again in order to be happy and to succeed. And I kind of had a feeling I knew what I wanted to do. I mean, I know the types of appointments I really enjoy, the types of people I love to talk to, but I've been kind of afraid to niche down because that's scary.

I don't want to leave anybody out. Right? Like, what if there's not enough people of the kind of [00:09:00] client I wanna work with? But being a generalist has made me uninspired. It's way too broad. I don't have any fresh ideas because I don't wanna talk about Saturn and Aries, just for the sake of Saturn and Aries.

There's so many ways you could take that. It's paralyzing and overwhelming. Instead, I'd love to talk about Saturn and Aries in a very specific way for a very specific person. Hopefully that's making sense. So I went to this astrologer with that request and this person specializes in business and strategy, which was perfect for me, and I was like, this is what I've been doing.

It's not working. This is what I think I wanna do. Can we double check that that's in the natal chart, that that is in alignment with my chart and what feels good to me and that I'll be happy doing that. And it was really eyeopening [00:10:00] and really affirming, mostly because this astrologer basically was like, well, um, you are wired to write.

So why aren't you teaching people how to write books with astrology? I was like, oh, yeah, yeah. Okay. That's too clear. Give me, can you give me something else? It was so clear that it was. It was scary. 

I know astrology, I've practiced it for a long time, and I've written five books. That may be a surprise to you. I have one on a shelf. One in process and three of them became extensive courses, which I have since retired. But that's a, that's a lot of books and I have my own process for using astrology in my creativity.

So it's like, why not bottle that up and share it with people and allow it to help them make the projects that they're passionate about.

 For those of [00:11:00] you who love to know about astrology charts, I have a really significant amount of planets in the third house and the ninth house.

So this is the House of Writing and Communication and the House of Publishing, teaching and disseminating information. So when they work together. Usually somebody with that type of imprint is in some type of communication field or does books or podcasts or media or something. It's just part of what they do.

I also really loved the honesty of this astrologer, who also does a lot of work with, with branding. And that's not my expertise, but I have Uranus exactly conjunct my ascendant, and I'm a Sagittarius rising. So if you don't know what that means, the best one word description we could say is weird.

Okay. I'm weird and I'm meant to do things in kind of the off, like the beaten [00:12:00] path march to my own drum against the grained way. And my brand is so bland, y'all, let's just be honest. I mean, it makes you feel calm. The colors are calm, but it is so neutral and so bland. And she was like, so what part of your personality are you not showing?

And it was like basically all of it. So I got caught, y'all. I got caught. Astrology does not lie.

I may not know all of the details or exactly how it's gonna look, but I know that I love working with creatives. I love working with people, making stuff, and I love helping them time and refine and organize that stuff using Astro.

And I wanted to share that with you because I love hearing about my favorite creators and business owners, and when they pull back the curtain and let me know what's going on in their real life, I really appreciate that [00:13:00] and I learned so much from them.
